Hydro-Mobile and Raxtar were selected by Atlantic Hoisting and Scaffolding to provide hoists and mastclimbing equipment to help build One World Trade Centre, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, in New York City, USA.
Both companies joined forces with New York-based hoist provider Atlantic Hoisting and Scaffolding to provide a solution for transporting workers and material to each floor of the projected 1,776 foot (541 m) high structure.
It resulted in a customised approach to the common tower. The common tower typically comprises a four-pole configuration of shoring and scaffolding components decked at each entry level to allow exit of the hoists and access to the building under construction.
One of the main challenges was the stipulation that the motorised system travelling up and down during installation and tear down could not interfere with the already installed deck levels and hoists.
Hydro Mobile's existing F-series mastclimbing work platform uses a system allowing the operation of two independent platforms on a single mast or, in this case, a platform on only one side of the mast. Apart from being a flexible platform, the F-series also offers a very high speed to capacity ratio, said the company.
Hydro Mobile supplied two standard F-series units for the job. They were combined with a custom bridge and non-conventional configuration to provide a work platform for material delivery to each of the landings of the common tower. This system, combined with a custom motorised scaffolding platform that Atlantic Hoisting and Scaffolding built, were integral to the common tower construction, said Hydro-Mobile.
Raxtar provided six dual and one single RX3245SFT and RX3240FT rack and pinion non-counter weighted Construction elevators with a 7,000 pound capacity.
