Hyundai production milestone

05 June 2015

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has passed the milestone of building and delivering its 500,000th construction machine. The half-million milestone was achieved 28 years after the company introduced its first excavator in 1987, a year in which it produced a modest 426 machines.

It has since grown to be a global player, and has a portfolio including excavators from 1.5 tonnes to 120 tonnes, wheeled loaders and forklifts. Its most recent additions are the HX series excavators, which feature low emission Tier 4 Final/Stage IV compliant diesel engines.

In addition to its plant in Ulsan, South Korea, Hyundai has five overseas production facilities in China, India and Brazil. It says it sold US$ 2.7 billion of construction equipment in 2014, and is targeting revenues of US$ 3.0 billion this year.

Rhee Sang-gi, COO of HHI’s Construction Equipment Division, said, “We will continue to introduce new models with improved quality and performance and solidify our position as a reliable maker in the international construction equipment market.”
