IDE changes at the top

Friday 16 November saw the handover of the presidency of the Institute of Demolition Engineers when vice president Steve Jack accepted the chain of office from outgoing president John Woodward at the end of the Institute’s Annual General Meeting, which was held in the Thomas Lord Suite at Lords’ Cricket Ground in London. Duncan Rudall in turn succeeded Steve as IDE vice president.

During his handover speech, John said that the IDE had seen a total of 37 new members join during 2012 (23 Entrant and 14 Affiliate), however the year saw the loss of 25 members through their failure to comply with the requirements of the Institute’s mandatory Continuous Professional Development (CPD) scheme.

Of these, 16 were entrant members, two were associates and seven were full members, the latter something of particular disappointment to the outgoing president. The IDE membership as of 30 April 2012 therefore currently stood at 396 members of all types.

In closing his handover speech, John had just one message for the incoming office bearers, namely: “Look after this institute of ours as it is unique in the world as its members are, not only extremely competent individuals but they are good fun to be around as well.”
