As the first speakers are announced, this year’s World Demolition Summit is already promising an international line up of names – with presentations from three continents on the programme.
The summit – organised by Demolition & Recycling International magazine in co-operation with the National Demolition Association – takes place in Miami on October 14. It will be the first time the event has taken place in the USA, where it will now be held every two years on an alternate basis with Europe.
Fittingly, the programme will include a joint American-European presentation, with Ahmed Amir Khalil of Applied Science International and Roberto Folchi of Nitrex discussing the use of advanced simulation technology on a bridge demolition project in Italy.
North America is also represented by Mark Lies, a US-based labour and employment lawyer and partner with the firm Seyfarth Shaw, who will talk about what delegates can expect from the country’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 2017 and beyond.
From the southern hemisphere, the Aurecon Group’s Dr Jan Kupec – who has served as chief geotechnical engineer to the New Zealand government – will draw on his experience of earthquake affected areas and other challenging sites.
