Iona Waste Systems Ltd, based in Killyman, County Tyronne, has been set up by former Fintec managing director Hubert Watson to produce equipment for waste recycling. The company's product line will include heavy duty trommels, a lights separation unit, picking stations and flex-deck screens. Hubert told D&Ri that Iona should be in full operation by early December, by which time the existing product range will have been evaluated with an eye towards future developments.

He went on to say that the main focus in the short term will be on selling Iona's products in Ireland and the UK. Equipment will be sold direct by Iona to customers in Ireland and Scotland, with customers in England being serviced by Stafford-based Waste Processing Solutions. Once firmly established, Hubert intends to launch Iona into other markets around the world where legislation is driving the development of recycling infrastructure to handle demoltion, construction and industrial waste.

"The key to our operation is in the provision of engineering solutions to our customers. They can come to us with a potential waste problem and we can tailor a processing facility that pecisely meets that need, potentially allowing recycling rates of 95% to be achieved."
