ISRI debut for Cat material handlers

Cat used the ISRI trade show in Orlando, Florida, in April to introduce its all-new concept Series 3000 material handlers to the North American waste industry. The company premiered two new machines from the range at the show, the 50 tonne MH3049 and the 59 tonne MH3059. Neil LeBlanc, commercial manager of the Industrial and Waste Business Unit, told D&Ri that the series will, when completed in early 2016, consist of a five machine line-up.

The two new machines have a special patented feature that Neil said would be on all machines in the range over 25 tonnes – a hydraulically elevating cab that also lowers to ground level to allow the operator to enter/exit the machine in much greater safety. While increasing the cost and complexity of the machines, Cat believes the safety gains made more than offset this. The MH3049 cab can be adjusted up to an eye level of 5.7 m (18.7 ft) with a raise time from ground level to full height of 14 seconds and a lower time of 12 seconds. For the MH3059 the maximum cab height is 7.2 m (23.5 ft) with a raise time of 17 seconds and a lower time of 13 seconds.

Cat has deliberately used a diesel with greater capacity than necessary, in both cases a Tier 3 compliant Cat C9.9 8.8 litre that on the 3049 delivers 224 kW (300 hp) and on the 3059 power is rated at 242 kW (325 hp). Cat says that this results in optimum machine performance, reduced fuel consumption, greater power available when required and reduced engine wear.

Engines will also drive the availability of the machines outside North America. Given that compliance to Tier 4 final emission requirements is due shortly, Cat has decided not to obtain CE certification for the Tier 3 machines and instead will wait for the Tier 4 versions before commencing the work to make these machines available in Europe.
