Jack Daniel’s Distillery for Gilley Crane

Crane and rigging service provider, Gilley Crane Rigging and Lifting, based in Manchester, USA, used its new Terex Explorer 5800 to lift two boilers at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg.

The boilers weighed 45 tonnes each and were lifted at a radius of 8.5 metres. The bases, which were also lifted into position using the 5800, were 6.1 x 7.6 m. To lift the bases and boilers into their final position, the Explorer 5800 worked with 16.7 metres of main boom at an 8.5 m radius. It took eight lifts to move and place the two boilers and bases, a company spokesperson said.

Robert Gilley, Gilley Crane owner, said, “At one end of the lift, we had to work around a fenced-in lot nearby other equipment, while at the other end we had to work around rebar sticking up around the boiler base.”

The 5-axle, 220 tonne capacity class 5800 was purchased from distributor Renegar-Driggers Machinery, based in Cleveland, Tennesse, USA. It has a 70 metre main telescopic boom and a carrier length of 13.2 m. It is 3 m wide and it can be configured to meet axle load requirements of less than 9 tonnes per axle, the manufacturer added.

It has six steering modes and is powered by a 405 kW Scania engine complying with Euromot IV/Tier 4 Final directives. In addition, it has the Terex IC-1 touch screen control system, radio remote control and walk-through carrier cabin with air conditioning.

The project was completed in two days.
