JCB has sold 225 construction machines to Boels - one of the largest equipment rental companies in Europe - in a deal cemented at the International Rental Exhibition (IRE) in Amsterdam, Holland.

Pierre Boels, Boels CEO, met with JCB CEO Alan Blake on 7 June at IRE for a special ceremony to formalise the deal.

JCB account manager Jonathan Middag told IRN, "It's a huge deal for us - Boels is a very important company in the European rental market. The company has 260 branches with offices in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland".

Mr Middag was also cautiously optimistic on prospects for the rental market in Europe. He said a patchy market was emerging, with some regions, such as Belgium, proving more ready to invest than others.

"When the economy is low, people will look to rent machines instead of buying, but the poor economic conditions have also affected rental companies themselves. Now we are seeing a need to replenish rental fleets and while it is difficult to say whether we are in a full recovery, we are certainly seeing more activity in some regions."

"This is our first time at IRE and it's an important show for is," Mr Middag added. "We are looking forward to networking with senior people from the rental industry at the show".
