JLG adds 6m version to the RS scissors range

JLG is introducing another model in its RS Series of electric scissors for the Asian market, the 6m working height 6RS.

Just as the 10RS 10m working height electric scissor, which was launched last October at the 2011 Beijing International Construction Machinery Exhibition & Seminar (BICES), could be said to be based on the 3246 ES, the 6RS mirrors the ES1930, but both machines have been specifically engineered to suit the Asian market.

Like the 1930ES the 6RS has a 6m platform height and a 227kg capacity, it also has a a direct electric drive designed to deliver "industry-leading duty cycles similar to the ES Series."

Bill Dovey, product manager for aerial work platforms at JLG said, "Both series are manoeuvrable in constricted spaces, with smooth proportional control of the drive as well as lift up and down, a comfortably positioned platform control box that may be removed for security, and there is an on-board diagnostic and battery condition gauge to provide information on the machine's health."

The 6RS differs in that it is slightly wider than the 1930ES 0.812 m (32 in compared to 0.762 m (30 in).

The 6RS has passive pothole protection whereas the ES series has active pothole protection, Mr Dovey said, "This passive system includes no moving parts and no electrical switches. It, therefore, requires no service or maintenance. Reports from distributor service representatives indicate that a significant percentage of service calls are due to issues with active pothole protection systems on electric scissors of various manufacturers. By eliminating these issues on the RS Series JLG hopes its customers experience reduced service and maintenance costs and increased customer satisfaction.."

The use of only 4 hydraulic hoses greatly reduces the chance of leaks and an easily accessible battery storage area further ensures ease of maintenance.

"Like the 10RS, the 6RS can be used in a variety of applications, and its ruggedness makes it very reliable."

The 6RS can traverse grades of up to 25%. The lift also features controls similar to the ES, for ease of training and automatic traction control for optimal manoeuvrability. A multifunction digital indicator (MDI display), which simplifies battery evaluation and fault diagnosis is also included as standard equipment. The 6RS will be available in late spring 2012.
