03 December 2010

Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) construction division has won the US$ 158 million contract to build an intersection on a main route between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport awarded India-based L&T the contract for the construction of the Sheikh Khalifa Interchange, located 75 km from Abu Dhabi on the Sheikh Rashid road as it intersects with the Abu Dhabi - Dubai main road linking the two emirates.

The two-year project involves building 12 km of four- to six-lane roads with connector
networks, and also includes the construction of four bridges and a 62 m long, 20 m wide tunnel. Associated electrical and drainage networks together with landscaping and irrigation will also be built.

"This order was won by L&T against stiff international competition and it augers well with L&T's expansion in international infrastructure," the company said.
