LAX expansion unveiled

24 November 2008

Los Angeles city officials have unveiled ambitious plans to modernise and expand the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at a cost of US$ 5 to 7 billion.

The project will see a remodelling of the Tom Bradley International Terminal and a new Midfield Satellite Concourse. This will add an additional 32 new gates, which will be capable of accommodating newer, wide-bodied airplanes, such as the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The plan also calls for the construction of a new passenger processing centre, several taxiways and a people mover.
