25 October 2016

Approximately €20 million is the amount that Lemminkäinen claims it is entitled to with the other asphalt industry companies implicated in an asphalt cartel case, following the recent decision by the Court of Appeal of Helsinki over damages.

On 20 October, the Court of Appeal of Helsinki gave its decisions in the legal proceedings concerning the damages related to the asphalt cartel.

Lemminkäinen said that regarding the 37 claims against the Finnish contractor and other asphalt industry companies, they were entitled to receive reimbursements of approximately €20 million. It said this consisted of a capital amount of approximately €14 million less, as well as interest and legal expenses of approximately €6 million less than the sums originally decided by the District Court.

Of these reimbursements, Lemminkäinen said that based on Lemminkäinen’s own share and those shares of other defendants that Lemminkäinen had paid, it was entitled to receive refunds of approximately €19 million, consisting of capital as well as interest and legal expenses.

Initially, it had been ordered to pay €48 million in damages, interest and legal expenses. It paid the damages in January 2014.
