Construction has begun for a new Liebherr logistics centre near Kirchdorf an der Iller in the Baden-Würtemberg region of Germany that will eventually become home to the spare parts supply for the company’s construction equipment divisions.

In phase one of the build, expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2014, work will cover site development, erection of warehousing covering 47,000 square metres (291,000 square feet) as well as the construction of a separate office building. Upon completion, this will become home for the spare parts for the company’s earthmoving division.

In the final extension phase, Liebherr will have warehousing covering 170,000 square metres (1.8 million square feet) as well as an office building covering 4,500 square metres (48,500 square feet) on the 360,000 square metres (3.9 million square feet) site.

The location was selected because of the close proximity of the A7 autobahn and the large number of Liebherr construction machinery plants in southern Germany, Austria and France.
