15 May 2018

Lift & Move USA recently participated in a one-day career fair at the Elkhart Area Career Center in Elkhart, Indiana with SC&RA members Clover Machinery Movers and Buchanan Hauling & Rigging.

The Career Center offers courses in construction, diesel service technology, machine tool, welding, and other areas that align with careers in specialized transport, rigging, and lifting. Students were offered information on SC&R Foundation Grants as well as other resources from Lift & Move USA.

“Our industry offers excellent and competitive opportunities in jobs, benefits and pay compared to other industries”, said Scotty Hepler, director of operations for Buchanan Hauling & Rigging, ”Career fairs and job fairs, such as the one in Elkhart, Ind., and interaction with and support of local education is critical to creating a pipeline of youth entering our industry.”

Tracy Bennett, Lift & Move USA director, said; ”Participating in technical school career fairs, Construction Career Days, and other local events is an easy way to spread the message about careers in our industry beyond the hosted events that are at the core of the Lift & Move USA program.” Lift & Move USA can supply materials to support those efforts.

Lift & Move USA is the careers promotion program organized by SC&RA, KHL Group, NCCCO and the SC&R Foundation to promote careers in crane, rigging and specialized transport.

In October, Lift & Move USA will assist Boulter Industrial Contractors at the Rochester, N.Y. Construction Career Day in reaching technical college students. Boulter will host a Lift & Move event in May 2019 at its facility in Webster, N.Y.

In addition, Lift & Move USA is taking a top-down approach to reach career and technical educators. “This is a crucial step toward impacting curriculum development and creating awareness among teachers regarding the skills needed and jobs available in our industry,” said Bennett.

Participation in two career and technical educator events are planned for Portland, Ore., and Greensboro, N.C., in support of NessCampbell’s and Superior Cranes’ hosted events in October and December 2018.
