How long have you been in the industry?

Since 1998.

What has been the most significant development in your time?

There are two points: from the technological perspective the increasing importance of sophisticated electronic control systems. From a market perspective it is the trend for consolidation in the construction sector and in maritime cargo handling.

What is your favourite crane ever?

The Liebherr LR 11200 lattice crawler with world record height of 228 m. Our test stand was too small but we had enough space between the manufacturing halls, which made it an unforgettable experience.

Is the crane industry safe?

The crane industry is safe as long as every party involved conforms to the basic safety requirements. Most incidents are the result of unrealistic expectations or wrong planning - one should never ever try to compensate this by not adhering to the basic safety rules.

What disappoints you most in the industry?

To see that there are still buyers who only compare machines on price and nothing else. It is more important to convince the buyer about the real value he receives for his money.

Where do you see the industry in 20 years?

I see an even stronger concentration of the whole industry with a limited number of manufacturers offering a full range of products.
