Mammoet in Roxy renovation

Netherlands-headquartered heavy lift and transportation specialist Mammoet provided lifting services to Canadian construction company Chandos Construction renovating the Roxy Theatre in Edmonton, Canada. The iconic Roxy Theatre burnt down in 2015 and the new Roxy is scheduled to open in November 2021.

On the job Mammoet used a 400 tonne capacity  Liebherr LTM 1400 Liebherr wheeled mobile telescopic crane to erect and dismantle a Wolffkran160b luffing jib tower crane, provided by was Morwest Crane.

The tower crane lifted more than 1,000 cubic metres of concrete as part of the restoration works. The LTM 1400 was setup on a main roadway and had to lift large and heavy loads at long radius. A 55 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1055, set up in the road near the larger crane, was used to help disassemble the pieces further and load them onto trucks to be transported off-site.

According to Mammoet, its Edmonton branch has seen an increase in dismantling work in the first months of 2021.

David Barnes, general foreman for Chandos Construction, said, “This project has some big challenges and some great rewards. Being a very tight site has made preplanning very important. Also, of course, bringing the Roxy back to the city is very rewarding. Mammoet is a great company to work with – very professional, with great service.”
