Mastclimber training for bricklayers

28 February 2008

Members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers (BAC) in the US recently got some expert guidance on the safe use of mast climbing work platforms from Kevin O'Shea of Mastclimbers Inc and a senior instructor for Aerial Work Platform Training (AWPT), IPAF's US subsidiary. The meeting, during BAC's annual conference in August, was important, said Mr O'Shea; “This invitation to present the Notre Dame workshop sessions was a 'top-drawer' opportunity to get to a huge volume of users...We had representatives from Boston to New Orleans, all of whom brought different aspects of powered access use to the sessions. In analysing the problems, and answering the questions, it's clear that consistent standards of training, measurement and quality are required now.”
