Max-er for Manitowoc Model 16000

15 April 2008

A Max-er attachment to increase capacity at radius is now available for the 400 tonne capacity Manitowoc Model 16000 lattice boom crawler crane.

The attachment allows the addition of up to 232 tonnes of counterweight to raise longer booms and increase capacity at all radii. Boom length increases 120 m from the standard 96 m. Adding a luffing jib gives a maximum 174 m of reach (90 + 84 m) compared with the standard 138 m (54 + 84 m).

“Many times in petrochemical facilities, for instance, there isn't enough open area to set up the crane immediately adjacent to the lift site. So the contractors need the extra ‘up and over’ allowed by the Max-er,” explained Al Kadow, product marketing manager at Manitowoc for lattice boom cranes.

For the first time on a Manitowoc the stinger is hydraulic so the operator can hydraulically adjust the position of the Maxer behind the crane instead of having to adjust it manually on the mechanical stinger.
