McConnell Dowell awarded Singapore MRT contract

McConnell Dowell South East Asia has been awarded the SG$ 340 million (US$ 224 million) Downtown Line 2 Contract 916 by the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA).

The contract includes design and construction of two Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) tunnels - 1.1 km-long bored tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.8 m, two cross passages, and 135 m of cut and cover tunnels. It also includes design and construction of the new Beauty World MRT underground station including station entrances, subway links, architectural finishes and external landscaping.

The station, located at Upper Bukit Timah Road near Jurong Kechil will also double as a Civil Defence shelter.

The project forms part of the Downtown Line Stage 2 (DTL2) scheme to link commuters from the Bukit Timah corridor to the North East Line, North South Line and Circle Line, connecting the north western part of Singapore to the Marina Bay area.

The contract is McConnell Dowell's first major MRT contract with the Singapore's LTA.

Detailed design will start immediately with construction scheduled for completion in July 2015.
