Montalgrua milestone Portugal

16 December 2010

Portugal-based Montalgrua reached a milestone when it installed the 1,000th Enercon wind turbine in Portugal.

Montalgrua used one of its Liebherr LR 1400/2 crawler cranes to mount the turbines on top of their towers at the T. Vetras park about 50 km from Lisbon.

To mount the 63 tonne machinery housing on the tower, the 400 tonne capacity crane required a hook height of 85 m and was configured with a 91 m main boom, derrick and 10.7 m fixed jib.

Montalgrua has a workforce of about 50 and is one of the largest crane rental companies in Portugal, according to Liebherr. Installation of wind power systems is one of its main areas of operation. In the fleet are 35 Liebherr cranes, including two 500 tonne capacity LTM 1500-8.1 all terrains, two LR 1400/2 crawlers, a 750 tonne capacity LR 1750 crawler and an LG 1550 lattice boom wheeled mobile crane.
