SNC-Lavalin won the CAN$ 259 million (US$ 239 million) contract to design, construct, finance and operate a new concert hall for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in Canada.

SNC-Lavalin's wholly owned subsidiary, Groupe immobilier Ovation, will construct the 2100 seat concert hall located in downtown Montreal, next to the current Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier concert hall of Montreal's Place des Arts.

Demolition work is already underway and construction of the hall is set to begin in August with completion scheduled for summer 2011. Following completion, the agreement will see subsidiary SNC-Lavalin ProFac operate and maintain the concert venue until 2038.

"We are pleased the government of Quebec has chosen Groupe immobilier Ovation for this prestigious public-private partnership," said Riadh Ben Aissa, executive vice president of SNC-Lavalin.

The new building will be a state-of-the-art concert hall designed by an architectural consortium of Diamond and Schmitt architects and Edifica.

"We intend to deliver a concert hall that will stand proud among the world's finest venues for playing and listening to music," said Jack Diamond, principal architect at Diamond and Schmitt.
