Brian Hornyak, vice president, major projects of the United States-based Sabre Demolition Corporation, has joined the international line up of speakers at this year’s World Demolition Summit. He will speak on Behavioural Safety and Best Practice in Demolition.
The event, organised by Demolition & Recycling International (D&Ri) magazine in co-operation with the National Demolition Association, takes place in Miami on October 14.
This is the first time it has been held in North America – after several successful years in Europe – and a high quality set of presenters is already in place.
Brian Hornyak’s education and background is in the area of safety and environmental management. He has served various roles dealing with the decontamination, decommissioning, demolition, and remediation of large industrial facilities for fortune 100 companies, including design, permitting, regulatory and contract negotiations, project budgeting, risk screening, and program management.
Mr. Hornyak has served various roles in private industry, consulting, and contracting with regards to project planning, health and safety, and regulatory compliance. His diverse mix of experience has added value to his past employers, as well as his clients, because he is able to look at a project and the associated risks from a variety of angles.
Also on the list of speakers is Mike Kehoe of the United Kingdom-based C&D Consultancy. Mike will be exploring the question “Can traditional demolition learn from explosive demolition?” Ahmed Amir Khalil and Roberto Folchi will talk about imploding pre-stressed concrete bridges, while Dr Jan Kupec will draw on his experience of demolition after earthquakes and on other high risk sites.
Overall, the summit is a mix of projects, safety and training and regulatory issues. The programme will be finalised by the end of May so please check the D&Ri website or the magazine’s e-newsletter for updates.
