Indian access rental and sales company Mtandt is seeing an increase in business due to the need for more productivity and greater safety, according to sales manager Praveen Maheshwari.

“The powered access market has picked-up in India. The international players have entered and we see a lot of growth across all industries. Money used to be a constraint, but now it is getting more important to work quickly. People are concerned about safety and human life,” he said.

According to Mr Maheshwari, the key area for the powered access sector is working at heights of between 60 ft. (18 m) and 90 ft. (27 m). “Below 60 ft. (18 m) people go for scaffolding,” he said.

However, he added that there was increasing interest in scaffolding systems, as opposed to using wood or tube and coupling scaffolding. The Chennai-based company sells and rents such products under the Aardwolf Quickfit brand.

In terms of powered access, Mtandt both sells and rents machines, but according to Mr Maheshwari, self-propelled platforms are almost entirely a rental product. However, he said that truck-mounted platforms were proving a popular sales product for power companies and city authorities, where mobility is a key factor.

He concluded by saying that he saw great potential in the Indian access market: “People are changing their mind-set. Once that happens, it will be a huge market.”
