Nanning-Guangzhou railway construction starts

A ground breaking ceremony held in Wuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China on November 9 marked the start of construction of the 577 km-long Nanning and Guangzhou railway.

Crossing the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province the line will have 23 stations, with double-deck trains travelling at 200 km per hour.

After completion transport capacity will be 20 million tonnes per year, with 110 return passenger train trips per day. Travel from Nanning to Guangzhou will take less than three hours.

Construction is expected to take 54 months, with the cost of construction shared by the Ministry of Railways, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangzhou Province.

Nanning-Guangzhou Railway will manage construction.
