New speakers confirmed for CPA conference

26 August 2014

New speakers have been confirmed for the Future of Construction Plant Hire conference, organised by the UK Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) and scheduled to take place on 23 October in Cambridgeshire.

The one-day conference at Wyboston Lakes Conference Centre, near St Neots, will focus on the safe use of machines as well as understanding and influencing the future of construction equipment rental.

The CPA confirmed that UK Health & Safety Executive interim chief inspector Philip White would speak at the event. Mr While was chief inspector of Construction from 2009 to 2013 and replaces Heather Bryant, who was former chief inspector of construction and previously scheduled to speak at the conference.

Meanwhile, John Carroll, logistics deputy at HS2 Construction – the developer behind the UK’s proposed new high-speed rail line – is confirmed to speak about HS2’s planning and expectations for construction equipment.

And the CPA said Steve Hesketh from MGF would be chairing a panel discussion on BIM (Building Information Modelling) and its impact on rental, while and Tim Watson would talk about the latest work on ground conditions for construction equipment.

Other subjects planned to be covered during the event included how the industry could address a skills shortage; machine developments including autonomous machines; safety and health issues such as operator competence; and public health issues including emissions and road transport.
