New TCM rough terrain crane in the iron

Italian crane manufacturer TCM presented its new 55 tonne rough terrain crane at an open house event in March.

The RTCW 55 is designed for Eastern European markets from where there have been direct requests for custom-built 55 tonne capacity rough terrains, says Antonio Pucci, TCM export manager.

The 13 and 14 March open house at the TCM facility in Termoli was an opportunity to see the crane in the iron for the first time. The machine has a maximum boom length of 32.6 m and vertical reach of 36 m. Maximum travel speed is 40 km/h and it is possible to tow up to 15 tonnes.

The RTCW 55 fills a gap in the custom-built market between 40 and 60 tonne capacity, Pucci said. Being less than 2.5 m wide and below 32 tonnes in weight, it can also be transported on a standard truck.

Four machines have already been ordered by customers in Russia and the Ukraine.The company plans to make 40 to 50 units a year, all of which will be custom-built. Options will include an hydraulic jib, allowing it to lift items through a window, complementing the boom's ability to extend horizontally.

In addition, units will be available with jib and free-fall winch, meaning the crane can be used, for example, to break stone, with the appropriate attachment. The range of possible attachments includes buckets and hydraulic hammers, said Pucci.

Although the RTCW 55 was designed with Eastern Europe in mind it is also being marketed in the rest of Europe and there are interested parties in Dubai. Pucci forecasts that both markets will begin to pick up again in the next few months.
