Operator certification delayed
26 February 2008
Mandatory certification for crane operators has been delayed in British Columbia, Canada, reported CBC News.
“A plan to require B.C.'s tower crane operators to pass safety exams is being delayed because there are too many operators who need to take the course. Worksafe BC had planned to require all operators to pass a mandatory written and hands-on exam by July 2008,” CBC said.
More than 10,000 registrations were made with the BC Association for Crane Safety (BCACS), more than double initial estimates, according to CBC, which went on to report that the delay to certification will be a year or more. BCACS was established in November 2005 to promote a crane operator qualification system
