Scaffolding company Peri USA has been commissioned to supply both the formwork and scaffolding for the expansion work being carried out on the 100-year-old Holtwood hydroelectric power station on the Susquehanna River.
The expansion has been ongoing since 2009 and when complete will increase the power station's generating capacity by 125MW. Contractor, Walsh Construction, is carrying out work to develop an intake structure and powerhouse.
Peri has supplied SKS single-sided climbing scaffold platforms. The SKS system transfers the loads resulting from the fresh concrete pressure via walers, compression spindles, strongbacks and the brackets themselves into SKS anchors placed in the previous pour.
As part of the contract, Peri is also supplying its Variokit heavy duty shoring towers to safely transfer the heavy loads from the slabs of the intake structure.
SLS heavy-duty spindles are being used for bracing the shoring towers. These can be preassemble on the ground and then quickly positioned between the intake walls by crane.
Peri is also supplying its Trio panel formwork system while up to 30 m tall PERI UP stair towers provide access to all areas of the project.
