Quayside delivery

Havator Transport moved eight templates from storage area to quayside for a major offshore oil and gas development in Norway.

The Goliat oil and gas field is in the Barents Sea, at a depth of up to 430 m. It is half way between Hammerfest and Snøhvit, about 50 nautical miles northwest of the city of Hammerfest. The field will be developed with eight templates, of which four are production templates, three are water injection templates and one is a gas injection template.

Polarbase AS is responsible, as the subcontractor of Technip Norge, for support functions regarding the shuttle services of offshore drilling platforms and oil and gas fields. Polarbase contracted Havator Transport to transfer Goliat project's subsea templates from storage area to the port of Rypefjord.

"The Goliat site move operation was the first major SPMT contract for Havator Transport in the Norwegian oil and gas industry and, therefore, very significant," said Timo Riiho, Havator Transport managing director.

Havator's responsibilities included the following:

* supply 32-axle lines of SPMT equipment, with a team of operators.

* Move eight 320 tonne templates in their storage area at the port of Rypefjord.

The templates were delivered to the port by heavy lift vessel in two transports. Havator Transport moved the units from quayside into the storage area. Following this, the templates were collected one-by-one to be transported by vessel to their final location in the oil field. In this phase, Havator moved the templates back to quayside.

Equipment was mobilised to Rypefjord in mid-March and Havator completed its part by the end of May. The main oil field installation will take place in 2012, with the template installation in 2011 and the riser installation and final hook-up planned for 2013.
