In January CE also sought opinion on the recent enlargement of the EU. Asked whether the admission of Bulgaria and Romania was good or bad for the EU as a whole, 65% said it was a positive development, compared to 35% who thought it was bad.

Although our survey showed people were in favour of the EU's latest enlargement, several respondents expressed reservations. As one respondent said, “It has serious safety implications where the influx of labour (skilled or unskilled) starts work on construction sites with poor language knowledge and safety briefings or documents not in a form they can understand.”
