Paris-based engineering company RFR and Calgary-based consultants Halsall Associates have won the competition to design a new pedestrian bridge linking St. Patrick's Island to the East Village development in southeast Calgary, Canada.

The winning design beat two other finalists in the competition to design the new CA$ 25 million (US$ 23.5 million) crossing.

The new bridge will span the western end of St. Patrick's Island between the East Village and the neighbourhood of Bridgeland.

It will replace the existing GC King pedestrian bridge and feature animated lighting, which, according to the designers, makes it an "interactive structure".
