Ring road loan

01 May 2008

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a € 220 million loan with the city of Stockholm to fund the construction of the ‘Northern Link’ section of its ring road. The loan could bring construction forward three years, as finance for the link was not previously expected to be available until 2008.

The scheme will improve access and help alleviate noise and pollution in northeastern Stockholm by channelling traffic into more than 5 km of tunnels. In addition, the road will form part of the ‘Nordic Triangle’ Trans European Network (TEN) scheme by joining the E4 and E20 motorways. These link Stockholm with Copenhagen and Gothenburg.
