Road building bonanza

Wirtgen Group will have a 2200 m² stand in Paris featuring new launches as well as sector leading equipment from Vögele, Hamm and Kleemann.

Compaction

Hamm will debut its new concept HD+ articulated 120 and 140 tandem rollers from its heavy duty range as well as a new HD14TT rubber-wheeled roller from its compact line. The HD+ 120 has an operating weight of 12,9 tonnes, while the HD+ 140 increases that to 13,8 tonnes. Both are fitted with a vibration and oscillation roller and there's also a high-frequency version for the US market.

Hamm will also launch its new 7 tonne DV65 all-wheel drive roller, which is an addition to the DV range and is available with a vibration roller, oscillation roller or combination. Modifications to the operating platform mean the DV65 is ideal for rental or construction situations with multiple operators.

The roller is steered using a steering wheel and operating parameters are shown on a clearly arranged graphic display - the operator interface of the Hammtronic electronic control, which is fitted as standard.

Pavers

Vögele will show its Super 800 small paver with a machine clearance width of just 1,1 m and a paving width of between 0,5 and 3,2 m. In the compact class, it will show its Super 1300-2, its smallest wheeled paver, while in its Super 1800 range it will display a Super 1800-2 with AB 500-2 TP1 high compaction screed and a Super 1800-2 spray paver.

Vögele will also show its InLine Pave system for hot-on-hot two layer paving. It enables a Super 2100-2 IP paver fitted with a AB 600-2 IP high compaction screed and equipped with two pressure bars to place a binding course that features such a high degree of compaction that a following paver can drive on the binder layer. The following paver places the wearing course prior to roller compaction, thus eliminating a whole roller cycle.

Milling

Also on the stand, Wirtgen will show a selection of models from its cold milling, stabilisation and recycling range.

New launches in Paris include the company's W150 milling machine with Widrive control. Widrive ‘networks' all the main functions of the machine such as the engine and milling drum drive to improve performance and reduce fuel consumption. The Widrive system also automatically activates water flow for cooling during milling.

Wirtgen estimates that operator input is reduced by -50% through the use of Widrive, so that operators can concentrate more on milling and less on machine control, which the company says will prove beneficial in terms of both productivity and performance.

Towed stabilisers

In a piece of last-minute news, Wirtgen has also announced the launch of two towed stabilisers at Intermat. Having first developed this type of equipment in 2004, the company says their success in Europe on soil improvement and soil consolidation applications has prompted it to develop a new generation of towed scrapers.

Both the new WS 220 and WS 250 offer a working depth of 500 mm. The WS 220 offers a working width of 2,15 m, while the WS 250 has a working width of 2,50 m.

Wirtgen has retained the low maintenance dual drive system of its original models, as well as the eccentric milling drum gearbox - a design feature that ensures the pulley housing is above ground at all times. New features include a re-designed mixing chamber that allows optimised mixing and higher throughput of material.

Also new is a mechanically adjustable levelling blade, which helps produce a smooth, even surface. The adjustable stone guard is also new, which prevents stone chipping and keeps dust down.
