Rome reconstruction

24 April 2008

Resurfacing of a busy stretch of road between two historic landmarks in Rome needed to be carefully planned to minimise disruption to traffic and tourists alike. Main contractors Laziale Strade and Stradaioli carried out the work overnight last month using some brand new equipment supplied by Caterpillar.

The contractors moved onto site at 9 pm and had to complete the work by 5 am the following day in order to re-open the road to traffic. To help the work run smoothly, Cat’s technical staff were on site to provide the site teams with on the job training on the new PM-200 cold planer and AP-600 wheeled asphalt paver.

The team used the PM-200 to mill out the 300 m long section of road to a depth of 40 mm and then repaved the 5500 m2 area using the AP-600. Despite being unfamiliar with the equipment, the teams completed the work on this high profile project on time.
