RSC Equipment Rental has promoted Gordon McDonald to vice president of managed services, in charge of RSC's ‘Total Control' equipment management software. He was previously director of managed services.

Total Control is a web-based system that allows industrial and construction customers to manage rented and owned equipment to minimise cost and drive efficiency. RSC said the product was used by more than 100 Fortune 500 customers in the manufacturing, chemicals and petroleum industries.

"Gordon has thirty years leadership experience in the rental industry, and intimate knowledge of customers and their needs," said Erik Olsson, president and chief executive officer.

"He has made great contributions to the business, including leading development of the unique Total Control software...With demand for Total Control growing rapidly among large manufacturing customers, we are adding resources to this area."

Mr McDonald joined RSC in 1997 with the acquisition of Industrial Air Tool, where he started in 1974.
