Safe load

Continuing on the safety theme is Hirschmann Automation and Control, which has introduced the Proifibus interface and data logger for overload protection with gantry and harbour cranes. The updated system uses the programmable switching amplifier from the company's PSV 3/1 range with a number of new functions. With the integrated Profibus-DP interface, the components can be networked directly with the crane control and other systems. Important data can also be recorded with a data logger.

“These functions make the switching amplifier particularly suitable as overload protection for bridge and harbour cranes. Today these types of cranes are almost always equipped with a programmable logic control with Profibus DP interface,” explains Dr Thomas Oelschlaegel.

Via this bus, Oelschlaegel continued, the switching amplifiers can exchange data, such as load values, angles critical states or error codes with the control.

“The data logger can be configured using a PC and enables the data to be documented in Excel-compatible format. With a click of the mouse, the user can determine which data is recorded, the time intervals at which this takes place, and when the data logger is started and stopped again.”
