Sany Heavy Industry president Xiang Wenbo (r), and China Communications Construction Company supervisory board chairman and deputy party committee secretary Liu Xiangdong (l).

Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Sany and state-owned contractor China Communications Construction (CCC) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to develop the Port of Doha and the 2022 World Cup soccer stadium in Qatar.

"The Qatar construction partnership represents a milestone in cooperation between the Chinese and Qatar governments and includes the construction of the Doha Port and the 2022 World Cup stadium facilities," Sany said in a statement.

It said 8 km of quays would be built at the Doha Port, requiring the excavation of some 65 million m3 of earth and rock.

Sany will provide a variety of equipment to CCC for the projects, including concrete pump trucks, excavators and crawler cranes. The company said more than 60 pieces of Sany equipment were already working at the Doha Port project, and other products, such as concrete batching plants, would assist in the construction of the Doha 2022 World Cup stadium.

The value of the contracts was not disclosed.
