Germany-based construction company Schleith decided on a Terex CTT 162-8 tower crane for the second stage of building on the Matthias-Claudius-Haus nursing home in Waldshut, Germany.
For the first stage of construction the company and the subcontractor in charge, Meier-Krantechnik, chose the CTT 162-8’s predecessor - the CTT 161 - but decided on the updated version for the next stage.
Jörg Körtgen, sales manager at Terex Cranes, said, “That was the first project where they’d be using the new crane, so we made sure to be there at the work site with our own assembly team in order to provide guidance and support.”
The CTT 162-8 crane, launched in mid 2015, is a flat top tower crane with an 8 tonne maximum-capacity winch. It rests on a 4.5 metre cruciform base and its typical applications include not only residential and commercial construction, but also industrial and bridge construction, making it an extremely versatile all-rounder, the company said.
Martin Käser, construction manager at Schleith, added, “We ordered the crane with a 55 metre jib length configuration and erected it with a hook height of 34 metres for the project in Waldshut, which was necessary due to the site’s hillside position.”
The range of tasks that the tower crane is doing range from the material handling work involving moving concrete, formwork and iron, to removing excavated material to moving mini excavators and other machinery.
Meier Krantechnik’s general manager, Thomas Meier, said, “With its maximum capacity of eight tonnes, the crane is so powerful that we don’t need to use a mobile crane at all, which makes the CTT 162-8 extremely cost effective. In fact, it’s even able to lift large precast concrete components without a problem.”
Compared with its predecessor, the 162-8 has at least 100 kilograms more of capacity along the entire length of the jib, and it also features a hoisting winch that is faster by thirty percent, the company said. Other upgrades include a new cab, weather-resistant stainless steel control panels and a remote assistant service that enables the customer and Terex to run remote diagnostics worldwide, ensuring that when a customer runs into an issue, it will be fixed as quickly as possible.
