Schmidbauer giant crawler investment

The Schmidbauer Group in Germany has extended its lifting capabilities with a 1,250 tonne capacity Terex Demag CC 6800 crawler crane.

"It will allow us to significantly increase our capabilities in the upper lifting capacity segment [and] is absolutely ideal for use in industrial facilities and in work with large wind turbines. In addition to the fact that we got the CC 6800 with the maximum level of equipment available, we also ordered the pedestal crane (PC) version with star-type outriggers. This way, we are also perfectly equipped for operations that don't require travelling with loads," said Werner Schmidbauer, managing director.

For its first lift ALE Heavylift Deutschland commissioned Schmidbauer to replace an old railroad bridge in Trier with a new steel bridge, in which the company performed its first tandem lift using the CC 6800 and its new Terex Demag CC 2400-1.

After the new bridge was slid across the river parallel to the existing one, The CC 6800 worked solo at a 24 m reach to lift the 148 tonne old bridge out the way.

The new bridge, weighing 210 tonnes, was considerably heavier. The CC 6800 worked with a 54 m main boom at 32 m radius, with a 42 m Superlift mast and 240 tonnes of Superlift counterweight.

On the other side of the river the CC2400-1 lifted 230 tonnes at a reach of 20 m. It used a 42 m main boom with a 30 m Superlift mast and 240 tonnes of Superlift counterweight.
