Sensing the load

09 May 2008

According to sensor manufacturer Tecsis, the increasing pace and huge quantities of goods handled is a big challenge for modern harbour logistics. ”The safety and availability of the systems are more important than ever, when it comes to the installation of new cranes or the retrofitting of existing ones.”

The company’s new load monitoring system for harbour cranes is designed to meet the challenge by monitoring what, it says, are the most important parameters, including crane arm angle and load. It then prevents overload by intervening in the crane control.

The ECPS4 force transducers are available in different geometries to allow easy integration into the crane design. They have Tecsis thin film sensors, which, the company says, ensures excellent creep properties, high precision and reliability.
