Singapore awards Tuas Port contract

16 July 2014

A consortium comprising of Hyundai, Samsung, Penta Ocean, Boskalis and Van Oord has been awarded the contract to carry out reclamation work on the Tuas Finger One pier at the Singapore Tuas Mega Port development.

Jurong Town Corporation awarded the contract, valued at SG$ 960 million (US$ 772 million).

The reclamation work will require 24.5 million m3 of sand, which will be shipped in by long distance bulk carriers.

In addition to the land reclamation work, the consortium will undertake dredging and construct 3.4 km of quay wall. Work is set to start this summer and will take four years to complete.

The Singapore Tuas Mega Port development represents the consolidation of all of Singapore’s container port activities on one site. Once complete, the mega-port will have the capacity to handle up to 65 million TEUs a year, nearly double its current capacity.
