Skanska in large contract wins

Swedish contractor Skanska has signed contracts for large projects in the US and Brazil, and has been appointed preferred bidder for a UK waste treatment project.

Skanska, in a 50:50 joint venture with DPR Construction won a US$ 256 million contract to build a 260000 m2 research and development facility for an unnamed client in the US. Skanska's share of the contract is US$ 128 million.

In Brazil, Skanska won another joint venture contract with two local companies to expand a natural gas plant in Rio de Janeiro. The value of the contract is BRL 1.3 billion (US$ 768 million), of which Skanska's share is 33%, BRL 450 million (US$ 251 million).

The project involves increasing by +25% the natural gas treatment and compression capacity of the Cabiúnas Terminal, which is owned by oil and gas company Petrobras. Construction work will include installing seven new processing units, which will produce over 5 million m3 of natural gas per day. The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Meanwhile in the UK, Skanska in a 50:50 joint venture with Aecom has been appointed preferred bidder for a £ 170 million (US$ 266 million) contract to build a waste treatment plant in Bradford, northern England.

The contract for the Bradford and Calderdale Waste Treatment Project will be awarded by the Bradford and Calderdale Waste Partnership, which includes the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council in partnership with Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council.

After planning permission is achieved, construction of the new facility will begin under a three-year programme. Once the new facility is completed, Waste Recycling Group, which is part of the international environmental services, infrastructure and energy business of contractor FCC, will operate the facility on a 25-year contract.
