Skanska to design/build Washington tunnel

A joint venture led by Skanska USA has been awarded a US$ 158 million contract to design and build a tunnel in Washington DC, US.

Skanska will develop the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authorities’ Clean Rivers First Street Tunnel with local contractor JayDee.

The project includes floodwater protection in the communities of Bloomingdale and Le Droit along with the design and construction of tunnels and shafts.

Work is scheduled to start this month and completion is expected in the second quarter of 2016.

The total contract value is US$ 158 million. Skanska’s share of 60% is worth US$ 94 million, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska USA Civil in the fourth quarter 2013.
