Span Oka

18 November 2008

The River Oka at Murom in the Russian Federation, approximately 300 km east of Moscow, is to benefit from a new bridge crossing. Due to open in 2009, the three 90 m high piers, 231 m apart, are being formed by Peri to withstand the loads of the cable-stayed construction that will span the river at a height of 30 m.
Underneath the carriageway, the form and dimensions of the pylon legs change continuously up to 30 m where the pentagonal basis then transforms into a constant rectangle. Peri designed cutomised climbing formwork solutions for the project, relying on the adaptability of its Vario girder wall formwork, CB climbing scaffold and SKS single-sided retractable climbing formwork to manage the complex climb.
On each pylon, the formwork and platforms lift with a single crane pick once each section is completed.
