Swedish rental operator Stavdal has invested in a large number of new Genie telematics-ready scissors and boom lifts, said the manufacturer, adding to its 1000-unit fleet. Stavdal also equipped 300 of its existing units the Trackunit SmartID card Fleet Management System.
The investment follows the launch in 2014 of Genie Service Solutions (GSS) and 18 months in-the-field trials in the UK.
According to Genie economic pressures in European economies over recent years means an increasing number of rental companies have been unable to invest in new equipment as regularly as they used to. Many businesses have had to slim down their organisations, which in some cases has led to losing the experienced personnel that maintain their machines to the required standard.
“As our customers are well-aware, with aerial work platforms there can be no shortcuts in terms of maintenance, inspection and certification,” said Matt Skipworth, service solutions manager, Terex AWP. "With the introduction of Stage IIIB engines and more features in the near future, even higher-level skills will be required to maintain the next generation of machines correctly."
Driven by the need to increase cost-efficiencies to support its return on investment, Stavdal had to streamline to remain competitive. Mikael Olsson, CEO Stavdal AB, Vastra Frolunda, Sweden explained, “Together with our respective sales and service management teams, we put our heads together to compare figures. Basing our calculations on the results of the recent Genie Service Solutions trials, it rapidly became evident that using Genie Service Solutions as third party for the maintenance of our new telematics-ready Genie scissor and boom lifts, we had come across an extremely cost-efficient solution.”
