A consortium led by Strabag subsidiary Ed Zublin has won the € 220 million contract to build Khalifa Port, 60 km northeast of Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

The project centres on the development and construction of buildings and infrastructure for one 4 km long section of the new port facility which connects the mainland with the container terminal.

The contract involves the construction of 25 buildings on this section including the 5-storey port control building, administrative buildings, a fire station and several warehouses. The total floor space will amount to 86000 m2.

Strabag CEO Hans Peter Haselsteiner said, "We are very pleased with this new project. Only recently we won the contract to expand the Takreer Refinery in Abu Dhabi. I see the new project as a further sign that we are gaining a foothold in the region."

Completion of the Khalifa Port project is scheduled for August 2012 with Ed Züblin's share valued at € 105 million. Other members of the consortium include the UAE's Al Jaber Transport and General Contracting Company.
