Strabag wins Polish motorway contract
02 February 2010
Strabag has won a € 260 million contract to build a 36,5 km long section of the S7 Expressway between Kalsk and Milomlyn in Poland.
Construction will start in March and is expected to be completed by July 2012. The contract, awarded by the General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA), involves the construction of 27 bridges, four service areas and three junctions as well as the four lane motorway.
Construction will be undertaken by Strabag Polska (51%) and Hermann Kirchner (49%), both subsidiaries of Strabag SE in Poland.
Strabag CEO, Hans Peter Haselsteiner said, "Due to the geological conditions and short construction period, this project requires a high level of technical know-how. We won the contract over other established Polish bidders for this reason, with a price that is not only competitive but also economically justifiable.
"This award also cements our position in Polish transportation infrastructure and raises our total order backlog in Poland to € 2,6 billion," he said.
