Sulzer Pumps has launched two new ranges of ABS branded dewatering pumps incorporating electronic monitoring and control technology to reduce wear, save energy and improve diagnostics.

The ranges, including drainage and sludge models for applications in the construction and mining sectors, include new electronic devices called AquaTronic and AquaPlug.

AquaTronic integrates "electronic intelligence" to ensure that the direction of the impeller rotation is always correct, with the unit electronically compensating for incorrect phase order. Sulzer said this means the pump starts immediately with full capacity and runs consistently, and described the system as a "first" for dewatering pumps.

The device also includes a USB link for PCs that allows the pump to be diagnosed rapidly without taking it apart.

The other electronic device, AquaPlug, provides control and monitoring functions including automatic stop/start, optional level control, alarms and service indicators. It can also be used to stop the pump during dry running and starting automatically at a specified level. Sulzer said this will save energy and reduce wear.

The new pumps are available in two ranges, the XJ pumps for drainage and the XJS for sludge pumping. Both ranges are available in 50 Hz and 60 Hz versions and have four models, the XJ25, 40, 50 and 80 and the XJS 25, 40, 50, 80. The 5-0 Hz models are motor ratings from 2.5 kW to 8.3 kW.

The launch of the new ABS pumps follows Sulzer group's acquisition of Cardo Flow Solutions in April 2011. Cardo owned the ABS brand of pumps and ABS is now a wastewater pump brand used by Sulzer.
