21 October 2014

A contract worth SEK 1.2 billion (€111 million) is to be delivered by Skanska for expanding facilities at Uppsala University Hospital, in Sweden.

The agreement with Uppsala County will involve the creation of a new healthcare building totaling 59,500m2. It will include oncology, radiotherapy and surgery facilities.

With a history dating back to the early 18th century, the hospital employs around 8,000 staff and has more than 1,000 available beds.

Skanska is aiming for gold level environmental classification for the building, which will be started early next year. It is due for completion in 2017.

Its development follows major contract gains for the company including having been named as the preferred company for a €600 million project revamping the UK’s Battersea Power Station and leading a joint venture for €624 million investment in onshore wind projects within the UK).
