Welders from Terex have won competitions at the Schweißen und Schneiden (Welding and Cutting) exhibition, which took place in September 2013 in Essen, Germany.

The programme included categories such as the Jugend schweißt (Young People Weld) competition and the international WeldCup. During the competitions contestants were required to take part in activities such as metal active gas (MAG) welding, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, stick welding, and gas welding.

In total, six members of Terex Cranes took part in the competition. Julia Cremer, a steel construction mechanic at Terex and one of only two women who took part in the competition, was awarded second place in the MAG welding discipline. Speaking about her award, Cremer said, “I didn’t think I would do so well.”

Jürgen Hoffmann, Terex trainer and instructor, said, “I already knew that Julia would land one of the top places. After all, she did outstanding work all throughout her training.”

In addition, Hans-Peter Lutz, also from Terex, was awarded second place in the WeldCup for the MAG welding discipline. Following his win, Hans-Peter Lutz has been entered into the international 2014 ARC Cup competition in Beijing.

Jürgen Hoffmann, said, “Hans-Peter’s achievements are really remarkable. Our young co-worker only had a seven-day practice period to prepare for both competitions, not to mention that he competed in two completely different welding technique categories. And to top it all off, he had to do all this while still carrying out his normal work duties at our lattice boom production area.

“The fact that our apprentices have once again performed at an outstanding level at this type of competition reaffirms that we train our young talent to be the best out there. This way the quality of our equipment will stay at top level. Julia Cremer and Hans-Peter Lutz will soon be starting their expert welder training, a company spokesperson said.
